Prepping for the Philippines!

Just had a wonderful week in west Tennessee at the Freed Hardeman Lectures. WhenI get to attend a lecture series it is such a big boost of energy for me. This year was no exception as it was on the Minor Prophets and was outstanding.
I had to miss several sessions as Jamie's mom had very serious eye surgery (but did great) and then there was the SNOW! Two snows (Monday and Wednesday) brought over 6 inches and then about 3 inches and made it a winterwonderland...but snow plows and salt trucks left a little snow and ice on the roads, so we missed some of the evening sessions. But another great series that really gave me a lift!
Now that we are back the time before the mission trip to the Philippines is closing fast. April 2 brother Chris Gerber and I are heading back. We are already getting two big boxes ready to ship this week to have them there ahead of us. (Hopefully)
It is so exciting at Trenton to have the ladies and girls of the congregation involved with making dresses to ship to little girls at the congregations in the Philippines. Cheryl Judd (the preacher's wife at Rising Fawn church of Christ) has been teaching the class for a year there and several of our ladies inquired about it and she offered to start a class and teach it here at Trenton. She started last week and there were 16 ladies and girls from three congregations in Dade County and by the time the class was over, all of the girls, including a 4 year old!, had sewed and the excitement was palpable in the room! It was great t see the cooperation and love between the three congregations (Magby Gap, Rising Fawn and Trenton) and to see some of the beautiful work!
If you don't already, you should follow Cheryl's blog at http://buchananjudd.blogspot.com. She has a lot of pictures and the Bible lessons she teaches along with the sewing training. Tere is also an article in the Jan/Feb issue of Christian Woman magazine.
With the great things happening at the church and so many things to be tankful for....I pray your day can be blessed today, too! Mine has been!

When Did the World Get So Busy?

We are at the Freed Hardeman University Lectures and staying with Jamie's mom. Today, did not get to go to the lectures. Jamie's mom had eye surgery today and did very well. It was quite serious and they put a gas bubble in her eye to hold a repaired retina in place. She has got to keep her head bowed (chin to chest) for three days or so to keep the pressure off.
She is to see the doctor in the AM and hopefully after that I can get to the lectures. Today to complicate the situation to get to FHU, it snowed about 5 - 6 inches since 8:30 AM this morning..Anyway we left for the doctor's office at 9:30 AM and then because of the snow were sent straight to the surgery center for her surgery. After the waiting and surgery and then an hour waiting on the medicine and we got home at about 5:30 PM. So I hope to get to spend some time at Freed starting in the AM.
Things have been busy at Trenton since September. It is a great pleasure to serve with three other great elders. Chris Gerber, Don Puryear and Buddy McKenzie are great and godly men who really encourage me and love the Lord and the church. We have had several baptisms and restorations and have been blessed with several new families. There are several Bible studies that we have going on right now and I have just started teaching, what I believe is going to be the favorite Bible class I have ever taught. It is on BASIC BIBLE PRINCIPLES and it got off to such a great start last week. We are running about 64 each Sunday morning and around 50 on each Sunday night and Wednesday night and it is such a loving group and I wake up everyday and go to sleep each night thankful for God blessing us to be a part of such a wonderful loving group!
It seems there is always new blessings and opportunities at the congregation and most of the time it brings such a happy smile to me.
In our family it has been so busy since Ellie arrived. She has just made everything great! Of course big news was on Halloween (not sure what that meant;)) Nathan gave Leigh an engagement ring and our family is expanding again. Leigh and Nathan are set to be married August 27, 2011 in Montgomery. He is a really nice Christian guy and has really grown up since they started dating and we are delighted to have him join us in the family!
Laurie will celebrate with Janet on Sunday, February 13, six months since the kidney transplant. Janet just got a check up and her doctor said she was doing great. Laurie has recovered well and is doing wonderfully. She has a new job she loves (that only works Monday through Friday--and during the day) with a large office supply company in Montgomery. She and Leigh have moved into a new garden apartment in downtown Montgomery and when another vacancy opens up, Leigh is moving into it for she and Nathan to live in after the marriage. Laurie has a new 'friend' and seems very happy with everything going on. :)
Louise and Dirt and Ellie are so happy seeming. Louise has quit at Faulkner and is staying home and keeping two other little girls--age 2 months and one that is 2 years. Ellie is now getting to be a 'big sister' and 'little sister' at the same time and seems to be adjusting to it well and Louise loves being home and we are so proud that she can. I am so happy that Louise can be at home to raise Ellie. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the sacrifice (?) that Dirt and Louise are making to have her at home. Can't think of anyone better to raise Ellie!
Jamie and I continue to stay busy.Last week she made meals for about 8-10 folks who were sick and I am so proud of her. She does so much for others and I am so amazed at her! She is teaching the Cradle Roll Bible class at Trenton with Sandi Grindstaff and I think she is so excited to look forward to Ellie coming so she can have her in Bible Class! They are doing such a great job. We have about 10-12 young people at every service and almost all of them are getting ready to go to Lads to Leaders in Nashville in April.
Currently I am, besides the work at church ,very busy broadcasting the Dade County High School basketball tournaments. The girls are young and winning about half their games but the boys are 21-3 and ranked 8th in the state. Still have a love for sports and kids. Hope Dade can keep basketball season going on into March!
Jamie and I will be in Montgomery March 7-11 for the Faulkner Lectures. I believe we will get to see Ellie then :) and we may even see and spend some time with the girls and their guys too:).
Then in less than 2 months, fellow elder Chris Gerber and myself will return to the Philippines for another mission trip. Last Saturday we spent a couple of hours with a dozen folks, young and old, from Trenton getting clothes and songbooks ready to be shipped to the Philippines to use when we get there!
Don't know why I got so carried away writing but I haven't done it in several months and just thought that someday I'll get old and maybe I can look back and smile when I remember how good life was....busy...but really good! Hope your day (and life) is too!
